The original abstract expressionist oil painting is from the collection 2022. A sense of quiet clarity is built up through mark making and the finessed colour palette – in combination with charcoal, oil sticks and graphite. There is a transparency usually associated with aquarel. And I’ve used impasto and sand to give extra plasticity and dimension to the work.

The 2022 Collection draws on themes such as silence and the “poetry of just being” (inspired by the likes of Pessoa and Pasternak). In particular, I strive to transform ideas into emotion, expressed by texture and rhythm. … I want the painting to evoke feelings, memories and images – stimulating their recall to the conscious mind.
