The artist and the poetry of being

Larissa Eremeeva is a Dutch contemporary artist whose evocative abstract art reflects on the poetry of being — on memory, emotion, silence and the fragile tension between inner and outer worlds.

Born in the then Soviet Union, she has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States and Italy. Her artistic language has been shaped by movement across these cultures and landscapes — experiences that continue to inform the atmosphere and emotional resonance of her work.

Originally working figuratively, Eremeeva gradually developed what she describes as an “evocative abstract” language — paintings that seek not to define meaning, but to awaken feeling, memory and reflection. Influenced by literature, silence and the fleeting nature of experience, her work moves between abstraction and suggestion, inviting viewers into spaces that feel both intimate and open.

Drawing inspiration from themes of transience, impermanence, mortality and remembrance, Eremeeva’s paintings seek not to illustrate fixed meanings but to awaken something within the viewer: a feeling, a memory, an image or emotional trace.

The poetry of being, expressed by texture, colour and rhythm.

Eremeeva’s contemplative sensibility is central to her latest collection, The Weight Of Air, which reflects on distance, possibility and the unknown spaces that allow us to dream. These paintings are filled with airy openness and subtle textures, creating room to breathe, think and reconnect with personal memories and emotions.

At the same time, Eremeeva’s work is not solely quiet or meditative. Paintings such as Tattoos while u wait #4 reveal a more restless and emotionally charged energy, where layered marks and dynamic surfaces evoke psychological tension and emotional complexity. Together, these contrasting qualities — stillness and turbulence, fragility and intensity — form the distinctive emotional language of her practice.

Each work is a combination of days of introspection, visualisation and planning fused with intuitive elements that arise during the execution of the work. Watching Eremeeva paint is visual poetry as textures, marks and colour choice create a subtle compositional tension which, at the same time, is tranquil and serene.

Larissa Eremeeva’s paintings invite contemplation rather than certainty, creating spaces where viewers can slow down, reflect and encounter their own inner landscapes.

Evocative abstract art that inspires

Larissa Eremeeva calls her paintings evocative abstract for good reason. The visually stunning and thought-provoking artworks, with their texturally rich aesthetic and rhythmic composition, can stop viewers in their tracks. Whether the viewer’s feelings and memories relate to those felt by her, the artist, is not important. What is important for Eremeeva, is that people who see her art may be stimulated to delve further and explore their own perceptions of the world and their own emotions. They can evoke heartfelt and often visceral reactions.
